Use Clay Masks Regularly To Keep Skin In Top Condition

Clay face masks are very good for your skin.

Grey, White, green, red and brown clay have different properties and are well known for their beneficial skincare properties such as moisturizing, deep cleansing, pore reducing and anti aging.

You can use a clay based face mask or facial scrub once a week to brighten and freshen up your skin.

Use different types of clay masks according to your skin type and what properties they have.

Or try single sachets so that you can get to know which types of face masks suit your skin best and have the best effects. Montagne Jeunesse have a range of single sachet face masks and even have self heating sauna, and peel off ones.

You could also try a facial at a beauty salon and try one of their specially formulated facials which includes a clay face mask. You can have aromatherapy facials, anti aging facials, deep cleansing facials, brightening and cleansing facials and so many more at specialist beauty salons and beauticians.

It is well worth going to a beautician at least once a month and having a luxury facial done with clay masks as well.

List of skincare benefits from using clay masks:

  • Deep cleanses and extracts impurities
  • Tightens skin and closes pores
  • Anti aging, decrease in wrinkles and crow's feet
  • Moisturizing and brightening
  • Nourishes and conditions skin making it glow
Or you can buy your own clay and mix it with a little water and essential oil to make your own homemade face masks and create a 'home spa'! Go to an organic skincare website like http://www.akamuti.com and buy some essential facial ingredients.

Or search on eBay for some natural skincare products to get some great bargains on clays and base oils.

The benefits of natural skin care

Five Benefits of Using Natural Skincare Products Five Benefits of Using Natural Skincare Products
By Brandon Merkl
Do you really know what you are applying to your skin when you apply skin care products? You may be surprised to know what kind of harm you may be doing to your system by using chemicals on the skin instead of organic products like coconut oil or almond oil.
Your skin is porous, this means anything you place on your skin, including chemicals is going straight through to your blood stream. You may be unwittingly poisoning yourself for beauty. There is hope though; you can use natural skin care products that will only enhance your health and your beauty.
Five benefits to using healthy skin care products.
Environmentally Safe: Using natural skin care products have benefits that outweigh your health and well-being. It has a lasting beneficial effect on the planet. We are learning more and more about how deadly the chemicals are in some of these products; not only for us, but for the environment. They are carried into the water table along with people's drug residue and a host of other things. It is a great way to love the planet you live on to use less chemicals.
No Side Effects: Drugs aren't the only thing with side-effects; your skin can become irritated and inflamed if you are sensitive to those chemicals. You could also have allergic reactions to the chemicals as well. This should be a red-flag that there is something wrong. You won't have a reaction to say almond oil or coconut oil unless you are allergic to the food itself.
No Headaches from Disguised Chemicals: Perfumes are used to disguise the chemicals used in the synthetic skin care product. They actually clash and mix to bombard your nose with a myriad of chemicals. This develops headaches in a lot of the population without their awareness of the cause.
Those Pesky Parabens: Natural skin care products are parabens- free. This is a preservative that extends shelf-life and will also mimic the body's natural hormonal system. This means it can make your endocrine system go haywire. This you don't need because it can cause conditions you will have to have treated with yet more chemicals in the future.
What goes on must go in: Women are the population in real danger from the application of makeup; skin care and hair care products as they enter the blood stream and poisons them. Also it is much better for children to use natural products on their skin.

The Dress Code - Five Steps to a Greener Wardrobe

In the last few weeks, we've discussed a number of healthy ways to live, ranging from proper diet and skin care to the values of recycling and green living. The message of a green lifestyle is simple: We care about our planet, and want to leave it as good as we found it and even better, for our children and for everyone. The wonderful thing about this is that there are countless ways to live green.

For example, consider the budding green and organic clothing movement. While the idea of organic clothing might sound a bit unusual at first, it really is an extension of the idea of organic food. Clothes are often made from plant materials like cotton, and these can be grown under organic conditions just like food products. With that in mind, here are five ways you can start dressing green.

Dress Code #1 - Shop Organic

The most straightforward and quickest way to get into some green attire is to find green and organic clothing outlets. There are literally dozens of such stores online, for a start. A quick Google search for 'Green Clothing' comes up with a number of promising hits, such as Fashion and Earth, and White Apricot, both of which have significant green-oriented fashion sections.

When it comes to local stores there are sometimes fewer choices. Clothing retail markets can be dominated by chain stores or specialized stores catering to specific body types or enthusiast niches. This doesn't mean there aren't any such places; just that they may take a bit more digging to find than the online options might call for. However, some chain stores are responding to consumer demands by offering Organic items.

Dress Code #2 - Make the Most of What You Have

An important theme in sustainable living is longevity. Buying a new set of organically made shirts for school is a wonderful step, but if it leads you to throw out perfectly usable shirts that you already have available, then how much good has actually been done? Clothes that you already own are a wonderful way to focus on sustainable fashion. They don't cost you anything extra to buy or require any new materials to make.

Of course if the clothes don't fit anyone in the house, there isn't a great deal of sense in keeping them around just in case. However, there are alternatives to simply scrapping them. If they're in good condition, consider donating them to a charitable organization. Or, if they're worn out past the point of decency, they make great scrap material for clothing patches, art projects, or even just washrags.

Dress Code #3 - Watch How You Wash

It takes a lot of resources to wash clothes. Apart from the water itself, there's the energy needed to power the washing machine and dryer, and if you're doing a hot-water wash that will take up still more electricity. These are resources generated in most cases by fossil fuels, and easing our dependence on these is an important part of living sustainably.

When shopping for clothes, pick out ones you can run through a cold water wash cycle. During warmer months, air-dry your clothes on clotheslines instead of relying on the dryer. As for the clothes you already have, consider replacing or repurposing the ones that require warm washes first, rather than the cold-wash friendly ones. Also, try to avoid or at least limit the number of outfits that need dry cleaning.

Dress Code #4 - Shop Smart, Save Money

We can save and reuse what outfits we already have, but we're eventually going to need to get new clothes. If we want to choose green fashions, it sometimes can cost a pretty penny. This is one of the toughest limiting factors on many green choices, and clothing is no exception.

Fortunately, there are always sales. Check with the online companies and watch for weekly discounts and special bargains. Do some research, bide your time, and buy when you can get the very best deals for your dollars.

Dress Code #5 - The Web is Your Friend

In addition to the many online shopping opportunities, the Web has an abundance of purely informative websites, with numerous articles available for just about any curiosity that strikes your mind. This includes information on sustainable living in all stripes, clothing choices included. One really great resource that some people just don't seem to be aware of is the Internet discussion group.

There are dozens of forums, blogs, and other kinds of communities where like-minded people gather together and find relevant things to talk about, green living included. See if there's a community that you're interested in and join up. You may find a great deal on clothing, or learn a cheap way to make patterns for home sewing attempts. The information is out there, ready for the taking.

Dressing green is about much more than making sure your clothing is made from all-natural, fair-trade materials - though these are very important, too. It's about a big picture mindset, and about taking many small steps to make the best of everything you have available to you. There is no one step that will make the world green, but rather many small, easy steps that we can all start taking right now.

Organic Products - What Does It Mean To Be Organic

The National Organic Program administers the O...

In 1933, Lord Northbourne published a book titled 'Look to the Land,' in which he outlined certain methods of food production he termed 'Organic.' His goal was to establish a view of the farm as an organism, self-contained and self-sustaining, in opposition to what he termed unsustainable 'chemical farming' relying on fertilizers and chemical pesticides. In large part, this organic farming was not a particular change from traditional farming techniques at the time.

In the mid-20th century, the 'Green Revolution' led to widespread methods of chemical and industrialized farming that is still used today. As a reaction to the perceived weaknesses of these modern farming techniques, organic farming has grown in popularity in recent decades and particularly in the last ten years.

What is Organic

Briefly, organic food is that which is farmed using organic farming methods. This means excluding food additives and genetically modified ingredients and avoiding the use of inorganic farming techniques such as chemical pesticides or crop irradiation. The exact definition of organic food can vary - according to the FDA, food is considered Organic if it consists of 95% or more organic ingredients. Other markets may have greater or fewer restrictions, depending on the criteria of various government agencies and the terms they set.

Know Your Food

Prior to the modern boom in organic popularity, the only way to be certain a product was organic was direct observation. Organically minded consumers would visit local farms and buy directly from farmers they knew to rely on organic techniques. They could observe firsthand the way produce was grown or the techniques used to milk cows. They could discuss changes and conditions with their provider, and generally the motto of the day was "Know your farmer, know your food."

This changed with the rapid increase in demand for organic food in recent years - as entire organic supermarkets such as Whole Foods came into being, consumption moved into the mainstream. Not everyone in the suburbs or major urban centers of the world is equipped with the knowledge or the time to get to know their individual local farmers, and sometimes organic produce can travel a great distance between production and distribution. Thus, third party agencies and government organizations have stepped in to create labels that certify products as organic in accordance with various private and public standards.

This does result in a disconnect, and require a sense of trust in these agencies.

Concerned consumers are therefore advised to research the standards set down by the certifying groups, and to do a little online research into how they go about making their decisions. Again, for example, the US certifies any product with at least 95% organic 'ingredients' as organic. This may mean that the end product itself was not prepared in accordance with organic procedures, or is packaged in an inorganic container. A little research can help allay or confirm suspicions and concerns such as these, so the educated consumer becomes the happy consumer.

Why Buy Organic

There are as many reasons for buying organic as there are products to buy. One of the most cited reasons is improved taste and food quality over industrially farmed food. Blind taste tests comparing conventionally and organically farmed apples indicated organic apples were usually sweeter and firmer than their competition. Proponents claim the lack of additives allows the natural, complex flavors of the food to come out and really captivate the consumer.

Another incentive is for personal health. Organic food is farmed with extensive restrictions on the use of pesticides, either in a complete ban or with specific, very strict criteria for their use. Thus, the USDA has released studies indicating that nearly thirty percent of organic foods contain no discernible pesticide residues, and the remainder have them in very small quantities. This is in comparison to conventionally produced foods, which can have as much as two thirds more pesticide residue than organically produced equivalents. Not every pesticide causes demonstrable harm to consumers. However, the point is that people can make better decisions for their health and their lifestyle when they know what is and what isn't going into their bodies.

The lack of pesticides also creates an environmental benefit important to many organically minded consumers. Pesticides can and do run into the local ecosystem surrounding any farming endeavor, and can cause havoc that may take generations to uncover and even longer to repair. Organic farming offers less impact on the ecology of the community and allows for a sense of civic responsibility and pride in participants.

A Little More Money

That said, organic farming does come with a hefty price tag. Since the same amount of land is producing less than conventionally farmed land, organic produce and goods can cost as much as 40% more than the alternative. A half-gallon of organic milk can cost as much as a full gallon of conventionally produced milk, which affects consumers' bottom line. Fortunately, there are ways to reduce this cost, again with a little bit of research.

English: Organic apple orchard in Pateros, Was...

For example, consider organic strawberries. These of course cost more than conventional strawberries, due to the strict and exacting standards required for their production. However, even the price of organic strawberries will go down during strawberry season, since the market will be flooded with the product, both organic and conventional. So, with a bit of research consumers can find out what seasons are best for each product they're interested in and buy in accordance with these cycles. Additionally, many organic companies offer special coupons and sales, just as do traditional supermarkets. A few minutes searching the web may yield a nice two-for-one sale on organic corn just in time for a big family dinner.

As with any passion, the key to truly getting the best use out of organic products comes from information, consideration, and action.

Natural Skin Care Tips for Men

"Healthy skin keeps him on the job" ...
"Healthy skin keeps him on the job" - NARA - 514790 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The skin is the largest organ in the human body and one of the hardest working. Not only does it provide a waterproof, protective container for the organs inside the body, it has several functions that are utterly vital to human life - skin regulates body temperature to prevent fever or hypothermia, it screens out a number of unhealthy pathogens in the environment, and it repairs itself relatively quickly from potentially compromising injuries.

In light of all that skin does for the body, the case for proper skin care seems to be a strong one, but frequently skin is the one organ people seem to think they can let take a beating. Hard work, a little too much sunlight, bad diet and other factors can cause quite a bit of damage to the skin, much of which is actually very preventable. Men in particular seem prone to developing roughed up skin, but there are fortunately many ways that men can take better care of this incredibly important organ.

The Basics

Healthy, natural skin care begins with control - specifically controlling what the skin is exposed to. Like any other organ, the skin is part of the body and needs nutrients to survive. In particular, water and vitamins C and E seem to be the most desirable nutrients to focus on. Healthy skin requires water to properly perform the sweating function so regular intake of water is once again a key to a healthy body.

Vitamins C and E help reduce the impact of sun exposure, which means they play a critical role in reducing the incidence of skin cancer. As for minerals, the most important is Selenium (found in whole grain foods and eggs), which again helps the body ward off the development of skin cancer. For some, healthier skin can indeed be had for the addition of a glass of water, a piece of fruit, and two slices of whole grain toast every day.

Apart from diet, exposure control requires thinking about the environment your skin will be a part of. Sunlight can be healthy, both for emotional well-being and for vitamin D exposure. However, UV radiation can and does cause skin cancer, and every sunburn you receive magnifies the risk. In addition, sunburns are painful and debilitating any way, so avoidance is entirely prudent. An all natural, high SPF and UV blocking sunscreen lotion does not take long to apply and can play a key part in regulating the skin's exposure to the sun. A hat can provide shade to the face and prevent overexposure to the nose and cheeks, while a light, long-sleeved shirt significantly reduces the amount of exposed skin. Again, the key is taking small steps that will lead to big rewards.

The Shave

While men aren't alone in having to shave troublesome body hair, they do have a marked propensity for having to do so on the most frequently exposed part of the body, the face. Shaving takes a toll on the skin as it literally involves dragging sharp blades over the surface of this sensitive organ. Couple this with the fact that many men seem to believe that proper shaving care is hot water before and after the scrape and you have a recipe for chronic skin problems.

In the case of shaving, a little extra effort can leave facial skin healthy and vibrant rather than dried out and irritable. First, don't use ordinary soap. Bar soap is great for getting the hands clean or a quick scrub in the shower, but it has a tendency to deplete natural oils the skin needs to stay healthy. This can lead to either excessively dry skin or excessively oily skin as the body tries to overproduce in compensation. Instead, use a naturally lubricating shaving lotion - there are many natural and organic shaving creams out there, such as those made from sunflower oils.

Health
Health (Photo credit: 401(K) 2013)
Additionally, give the cream time to work. As it sits on the face, it softens the skin and the hairs, making the shave easier on the body. Some users find that a shaving hairbrush whips up much more lather, so you may consider using this as well. After-shaves and balms help soothe the skin and the best ones should include a moisturizing element as well. This extra time should only add a minute or two at most to the shaving routine but in cumulative effect should have a major benefit on the skin's health and appearance.

The Extras

Up until now our focus has been on how to change an existing routine to help take care of skin, but there are other considerations as well. One of these is considering what treatments can be added for good skin care. It's all well and good to replace soap with gentle cleansers and trying to eat healthier, but sometimes even these good efforts don't take care of everything.

Organic and all natural moisturizers are one addition, as are nutrient gels. The skin is often the last part of the nutrition cycle; so adding a little vitamin E based moisturizer certainly can't hurt. Additionally, clay based facial masks can help with nasty bags under the eyes caused by long nights or poor nutrition.

Natural skin care doesn't require long retreats to exotic spas. As with most healthy lifestyles, healthy natural skin care just involves taking positive steps and making small but helpful changes to the routine we already have in place. It's not about a radical new exfoliant, but replacing harsh aftershave with natural, healthy balms. And as with most healthy habits, the best results come from the long-term effort, so stick with it and get the healthy skin you deserve.
