Tips for Christmas Party Fashion Styles
By Suzy A O'Connor
Preparation. If you are intending to try something new for the Christmas or New Year party we would recommend a trial run prior to the event on a quiet night in, just to check that chosen colours work with your skin tone, hairstyles stay put, and to generally give you a little practice with your overall look. Why not invite a friend over for a 'party dress rehearsal'? You can have great fun together and avoid a last minute panic on your big night out.
Party makeup. At this time of year you can really have fun with you makeup, introducing glitter and shimmer to your look. We also love some of the brights that we have seen this year, including red hues on the eyes, how festive! Try smoky eyes and nude, glossy lips or go for festive gold or seasonal silver, the options are endless. If you like to stay with your usual look why not add a dot of shimmer and blend into the middle of your upper eyelids, it will really open up your eyes. Likewise, a dab of shimmer in the centre of your bottom lip will emphasise your pout. Have fun with your makeup by trying something new, but don't go too far and end up looking like a drag queen - unless that is the look you're going for of course!
Party hair. Your hair can really add to your image so make the most of it with plaits, quiffs or a fabulous up-do. Ask a hair stylist for ideas when you go for your next cut or colour and try something new. Pick up some of the pretty accessories that are around, they can provide an easy way to brighten up your hairstyle. We would not recommend a last minute home dye, it may have worked for Cheryl Cole but that's no guarantee that it will for you. If you are toying with the idea of a colour change always think it through and go to a professional colourist.
Shoes. Just because it's cold outside it doesn't mean that you can't wear pretty heels, just be sure that you have lifts organised both to and from the venue, and please break any new shoes in before your night out. This season's trends include buckled and laced shoes, kitten heels and wedges. Our favourite look for party shoes involves the recent obsession with velvet. If you can find a pair of velvet heels they will really add a touch of modern glamour to your outfit. Embellished shoes always look pretty for Christmas and New Year parties too; think gemstones, mirrors, crystals, and even feathers and bows.
Dresses. Gold and red dresses work really well over the Christmas period but if these colours aren't for you then you can try anything with a little sequin detail, or dress up you LBT with some gorgeous jewellery or an artificial fur wrap.
Have fun!

Feathers for Christmas Fashion?
By Vikki Wright
One of the biggest trends of 2010 is the feather trend.
Right now, feathers are everywhere & with the party season looming upon us, the high street shops have taken cue from the catwalks & have become stocked full of feathery pieces.
Of course this is a trend that has dipped in and out of fashion for years, and in fact the feather began its fashion career way back in the 11th century when men & women decorated their head dresses with them as a sign of high social standing.
Strictly for the wealthy it wasn't actually until the 17th century that feathers were used more universally & feather boas became a fashionable accessory. The popularity of the boa sparked the eventual boom in the international plumage trade in the 18th, 19th and even 20th centuries among ordinary women and entertainers alike.
Cabaret dancers of the last century made feathers erotic by adorning themselves in extravagant feathered outfits & using their boas in erotic shows, whilst the ladies of the time kept feathers classy by using them in their hats and bonnets.
Nowadays feathers are enjoying a massive comeback & this is a trend that's also going to be hot for Spring/Summer 2011; Alexander McQueen, Christian Cota, Giambattista Valli & Zac Posen all showcased feathers in their collections at the S/S 2011 shows, so investing in something feathery now could be a worthy investment.
If you're not really into sequins or fur, feathers are also a chic & pretty alternative for getting noticed this Christmas. The range of varieties also means you don't have to work the feather trend full on. Feathers are appearing on earrings and necklaces, clutch bags, hair pieces and even shoes (for those who want to put their feather fashion foot forward!).
If you love Hollywood glamour & really want to work the trend du jour, a feather boa is always a simple but fabulous way to dress up an outfit at Christmas!
Of course, it doesn't just have to be the fluffy feather look either- you could also choose to wear silk, organza or chiffon feathers, or for the more conservative fashionista, feather prints are totally hot right now as well.
From provocative sexy to elegant and refined, the new feathery designs can suit different occasions from casual to formal to partywear. Any woman can embrace this look and if you don't want to look too over the top just wear feathers on one article of clothing. Most importantly, choose the feather outfit that suits your personality and body type perfectly!

What's This Year's Festive Fashion?
Festive Season Style!
By Fiona Cameron
People want to look their best during this festive season, whether it's a pre-Christmas lunch, a fabulous cocktail party or just visiting relatives on the big day.
There are some great trends this festive season, and will not only flatter, but inspire and make you look and feel great as well.
Christmas and the Little Black Dress seem to go hand in hand, and this season is no different. From strapless prom dresses, to understated tunics, and even feathered numbers with that wow factor, there are a lot of fabulous styles to choose from. Remember to select something that shows your personal sense of style and is flattering to your body shape. If wearing a short, strappy dress makes you feel uncomfortable, then go for something more substantial, like a one-shouldered, knee-length dress, one that has sex appeal to spare and won't leave you feeling uncovered. Don't be afraid to push the fashion envelope, teaming a short, black dress with black tights, or pop a cute shrug over a hot, strapless number and look like a million dollars.
Gorgeous dresses in luxuriously bold colors are really hot this year. If you want to look stunning for your seasonal parties, evenings out and drinks before dinner, try wearing damsons, plums, clarets and other colors that reflect the season. Tone down jewellery and accessories and leave it to the dress to make a statement.
Or maybe you're considering pants for a night on the town. Consider some black trapeze trousers paired with a sequined top and stiletto heels. For instant chic, complete the look with a simple clutch and beaded, black cuff bangle.
If you want an outfit that is cool and edgy, why not consider pairing satin skinny pants with platform heels and a glitzy halterneck? Just add a small silver purse and chandelier earrings and you are good to go.
It's important to incorporate an amazing grooming and beauty regime to add the finishing touch to your Christmas outfit. Don't overlook the small details. Waxing and exfoliating before applying a touch of artificial tan will ensure glowing skin, while a good manicure will really make a difference to your finished look.
And how about the big day? Can you be comfortable, stylish, and chic at the same time? Why, yes! We're infatuated with this season's slouch trousers which are practical, flattering, and downright gorgeous! Very stylish without trying too hard, they are perfect for Christmas day coupled with a pussy bow blouse and some mid-height heels. Grab some wide leg jeans and a luxurious cashmere knit for an understated, festive look that will have you feeling chic and comfortable all day long.
If dresses are more your speed, a simple tunic dress that reaches just below the knee with opaque, black tights and chunky heels is not only a cool look, but easy to pull off.
Choose a fabulous coat to pull your look together. This season, the choices are infinite. A classic length funnel neck coat will flatter any figure, while a cape coat with bold, brass buttons is the go to shape this season. Pay attention to details like oversized bow tie collars, or an edgy check print to make your whole outfit pop! Spending a bit more on a good quality coat is always worthwhile.
During the festive season, we spend so much time focusing on doing things for others that we often put ourselves on the back burner. It's okay to pamper yourself, and keep checking in on OnTrend.co.uk to find fabulous fashion at a store in your area, or buy online for stress free shopping.
Have a great Christmas - you've earned it!
